VIDEO PRODUCTION
Duration: 11 MONTHS
Eligibility: 10+2
Now a days with TV channels running 24/7 and programmes being churned out like assembly-line factory products, time never seems to be on the side of the TV producer. Under such circumstances, production in TV is a very crucial and central responsibility.
After a programme is conceptualized, it basically goes through three broad phases:
1. Pre- Production.
2. Production.
3. Post- Production.
Pre-Production is the stage where an idea is explored in terms of written scripts, plans, schedules, treatment and other technical possibilities. This is the most important and crucial phase of production in TV. A mistake at this stage may result in the collapse of the entire production. During production, one does not get the time to think over issues because every second during production costs huge amounts of money and so no time can be wasted during this stage. Right from looking for actors to finalizing costumes and visualizing shots, every detail has to be addressed at this stage. A checklist has to be prepared for everything, equipments, schedules, costumes, actors, locations, properties etc. Permissions have to be obtained if required. Rehearsals have to be done at this stage. In case of an interview, relevant questions have to be chalked out during pre-production.
The second stage is Production itself. It is during this stage that all the planning that has been done during the pre-production stage are executed. Here every member of the crew, the producer, the cameraman etc. is assigned certain responsibilities and they have to be executed without failure. But in spite of taking immense care and precautions during pre-production, unforeseen circumstances do arise but the aim of the crew has to be to prevent the programmme from being a casualty. Gaps have to be filled in and for this the crew should always be ready with a contingency plan.
The last stage of a TV Production is the Post-Production stage unless the programme is directly telecast through a multi-camera set up. In that case postproduction happens simultaneously with production where a central control unit attached to the studio floor controls and manages the programme. However, programmes that are not directly telecast go through the stage of postproduction wherein the shot footage is sorted, assembled, edited, dubbed and packaged neatly for telecast. It is the last stage during which the director/producer of the programme can give shape to the programme in a way in which he or she had visualised it in the beginning.
A course in TV Production here at Delhi Film Institute will try to train an individual with a comprehensive knowledge of all these stages of production. A student will be acquainted with the entire process in a way that he or she has a sound knowledge of all the phases and is professionally equipped enough to go out to the industry and confidently handle responsibilities of production without having to go through the painful ordeal of getting acquainted with the set up. This would logically lead to quick growth without having to spend too much time in training.

SOUND ENGINEERING
Duration: 6 Months
Eligibility: 10+2
Sound is one of the most essential and inevitable elements in the process of filmmaking. Many a times people tend to pay too much attention to the visuals and neglect the importance of sound. This results in an incomplete and shoddy production, which can never grab the attention of its viewers. With technology steadily heading towards the peaks, today Films and TV Programmes heavily depend on sounds and effects.
Sound defines the feel of many scenes. Sound effects along with editing techniques and styles are actually capable of changing the entire meaning of a scene or a sequence. Apart from understanding the technical aspects of sound design and engineering, one has to develop a keen ear for understanding sound minutely. One should also have a sense of aesthetics and should have ideas so that the effects and technology can be put to the right use.
Delhi Film Institute offers a comprehensive course in sound engineering. Apart from workshops and projects where students are given in-depth information about sound and its qualities, we also give students access to a fully equipped Audio Studio with Recording Consoles, Mixers and Processors. Students also get a detailed demonstration of various kinds of high quality Mikes including Sennheiser and Shure Mikes of the best quality available in the industry.
Anju Visuals is equipped with a professional Audio Studio for Multi-Track Digital Recording and dubbing facilities on all formats. Students have access to this apart from getting opportunities to be part of the film shoots that happen at the production house.
CAMERA & LIGHTING
Duration: 6 Months
Eligibility: 10+2
There was a time in the history of the film and TV industry when a Camera person was considered to be a highly technical person who was only supposed to operate the camera. However, today things have changed a lot and a cameraperson needs a lot more than mere technical skills to operate and run the instrument. Today, a Camera person better known as a Cinematographer is more of a creative than technical personnel. He or she is also referred to as the Director of Photography.
Delhi Film Institute, therefore understands that apart from merely learning the operations of the camera, it is also necessary to learn the importance of lighting up an object before shooting. Only then a certain image created by a Camera person can be categorised as professional.
The lenses used for various images desired by the director, the shutter, the aperture, the behaviour of light in relation to an image and many other technical details are behind the creation of the simplest of images we get to see. All this knowledge and information has to be at the back of the hands of a cameraperson so that he or she can manipulate them in the right way even within the shortest span of time. Only then can the camera be used as a means to create rather than getting entangled in its technical snare.
Our students at the institute get professional training along with hands on experience in studio and classroom exercises designed to create a professional milieu. It is a comprehensive course where students are taught the about the parts and operations of the camera along with the added benefit of learning the system of lighting alongside.
NON LINEAR EDITING
Duration: 6 Months
ELIGIBILITY: 10+2
It is believed that a film can be made or marred at the editing table. Editing is that stage of filmmaking when the material, which has been shot, or the rushes of a film can be sorted, arranged, assembled and formatted. It is the last stage for a filmmaker to rethink and develop his or her film as conceptualized.
Many experimental filmmakers do not edit their films and many edit during the shoot itself. But the process of shaping the film on the edit table is by far the most popularly used method of making a film.
Non-linear editing is the type of editing which is not done in sequence. It is done one scene at a time and not in order of the real script.
Editing can be done on various kinds of machines and software and with the constant growth of technology, the facilities of these machines and software are also increasing. However, the basic principles of editing remain the same wherein a shot is connected with another shot with the help of a range of transitions like a cut, a dissolve, a wipe etc. It was filmmaker D.W. Griffith who first understood and worked on the principles of continuity editing where shots are connected to each other logically in sequence. However, it was Sergei Eisenstein who worked on a completely different concept of putting shots together, the montage method where completely random shots are juxtaposed to bring out a completely new meaning through the sequence.
At Delhi Film Institute, we offer a course in Non-Linear Editing on Avid as our machines. Avid is the most popular editing machine, not only in the television industry but also in the film industry. However, our main initiative remains that we endeavor to gear our students with the basic principles of editing and to help them develop their own aesthetic and film sense. This in turn will help them go very far in terms of being an Editor rather than a mere technical operator of a machine.

RADIO JOCKEYING, ANCHORING & NEWS READING
Duration: ONE MONTH
Eligibility: Admission by Audition
Way back in the history of television, news was a serious, no frills business where a person assigned to read out the daily bulletin did the same with a monotonous tone and a dull expression on his or her face. Today, with the advent of news channels and news related TV programmes, the definition of the entire concept of newsgathering and reading has completely been revolutionized.
Today, news reading and presentation is far from dull and serious and there is a certain amount of flamboyance and glamour attached to the business of news. Today, it is an anchor and not a mere newsreader that presents the news. The anchor is a connecting thread in a TV news bulletin. It is the job of the anchor to read the main news. The reporters, voiceovers, visuals, interviews, graphs, direct reports, pieces to camera and other packages, cover other details of the stories. So, the news anchor is required to have a lucid, loud and clear diction and voice. The anchor must also be comfortable in front of the camera. He or she has to know where exactly to look so that the eyes don't look disoriented to the audience, everyone of who is to be addressed by the anchor.
The anchor is required to be very alert and responsible while presenting the bulletin. A mistake on the part of the anchor may result in a major flaw in the programme. It is the anchor's job to fill the awkward gaps between stories and to connect and thread the entire array of reports that are presented in a single bulletin. So, the anchor must know the stories in details and should be able to present them in such a way that he or she somewhere starts building a relationship with the viewers. Keeping this in mind, the facial expressions and look of the anchor is extremely important. No audience will ever appreciate an anchor with a grim face. At the same time an anchor cannot smile while presenting a really distressing piece of news. While maintaining all this, the anchor must also remember that he or she has to sound convincing and confident.
The most important part of an anchor's job is ad libbing wherein the anchor has to know exactly how to react and what to say whenever there is a technical snag during the bulletin. So, the anchor must have a brilliant command over the language, should be well informed about the various facts and coordinates about the events and personalities involved. Last, but not the least, the anchor has to be well read, cultured and a trained and fine communicator as he or she represents the programme or the channel in more than one ways.
The News Anchoring course at the Delhi Film Institute aims to instill all these qualities and more in the students so that they can built themselves to be strong, smart, talented achievers in the fast growing and thrilling world of news and reporting.
Radio Jockeying is all about presence of mind and oodles of wit. With the advent of an assortment of radio channels and with names like Radio Mirchi and Radio City becoming hip with the young generation, Radio seems like the place to be!
Today radio seems to be all pervading. From bed tea to drive to office to late night parties, it is the voice of the RJs that define the hour of the day. Some people are naturally gifted with a flair for entertaining people and communicating with them. Others need to cultivate it. But whatever the background of a person, with a little bit of grooming and acquaintance with the media, a person can easily nurture the talent latent in him or her.
Radio Jockeys have become so much a part of our daily lives that they have finally managed to attain the status of celebrities. From 'Love Guru' to the RJs on 'Wicked Hour', don't we just adore them all?
At the Delhi Film Institute we try to identify and hone the talents of all our students. With the guidance and inputs of experts from the industry, students are acquainted with the media and the technical factors that they need to keep in mind while performing.
Voice modulation, tempo, speed, pitch are some of the technical aspects of speech and voice cultivation that a Radio Jockey has to pick up in a professional course apart from presence of mind and a crisp and lucid language. Through regular voice exercises and rehearsals, we help our students identify their strong and weak points and help them develop as confident and smart professionals so much in demand in the industry.
Apart from the regular popular channels based in the metros, a Radio Jockey can also explore other pastures like other regional radio stations where an RJ can excel with an opportunity to perform in his or her own mother tongue. Because whatever the channel, whatever the language or region, RJ's are out to conquer and if you have it in you, nothing should prevent you from exploring!
The Radio Jockeying, Anchoring & News Reading Workshop at Delhi Film Institute aims to instill all these qualities and more in the students so that they can built themselves to be strong, smart, talented achievers in the fast growing and thrilling world of Radio, News and Anchoring.
